The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UIMA) is pleased to present Serious Play, an exhibition curated by Marissa Woloszczuk that explores how meaning is created through the relationship between surface and content. Form need not follow function, and in this exhibition the transformation of idea to object is addressed with humor and youthful exuberance.

Serious Play presents her work alongside emerging Chicago based artists Lori Doniels, Matt Davis, Mark Alcazar Diaz, Justin Michell, Kirsten Stoltmann, Jack Sloss, and Aaron Wexler. On view will be sculpture, video, painting and photography pointing to the shared energy and optimism of a new generation of local artists.

The Ukrainian Institute of Modem Art (UIMA), a not for profit arts organization, was founded in 1971. For over 25 years UIMA has served the local community and greater Chicago area with a program of exhibitions, concerts, lectures and multi-disciplinary events. The programs presented by UIMA are partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
