The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art is pleased to present Hysterical Pastoral: Landscapes and Text
Chicago, IL. – Hysterical Pastoral, a group show of contemporary landscape images opens at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art on July 11th. Curated by Bay Area artist, John Neff, the show includes work from Dan Attoe, Andreas Fischer, Nicolas Frank, Amy Hauber, Brad Killiam, Dutes Miller, Melissa Oresky, Sterling Ruby, Aaron van Dyke, Mike Wolf and others. The show focuses on landscape images which are filtered through a kind of "writing". In some cases, the "writing" is literal, in that the art illustrates or accompanies text. Sometimes the "writing" is presented more loosely, whereas the art follows a specific source or prescriptive process. Many of the works approach their status as pictures from the plane of writing. That is, they are pictures in which there is a transition, either physical or conceptual, from the flat, horizontal plane of writing to the upright, vertical plane of pictorial space. The opening reception will be held on July 11 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The exhibition will be on view until August 17. Located at 2320 W. Chicago Avenue, the Institute is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m. For more information call 1-773-227-5522 or visit www.uima-art.org.
