The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UIMA) is pleased to present Nexus, an exhibition of recently arrived Ukrainian painters and sculptors. This is a juried exhibition looking to establish links between the ethnographic roots of the artists with current developments in contemporary art practices. The work on view will show how these contemporary artists marry traditional imagery with the influences of more recent Western European visual culture.

Artists selected by UIMA's visual art committee include Mikola Pagan, Oleksiy Kovalenko, Nina Lapchyk, Volodymyr Melnik, Yuriy Olishkevich, Volodymyr Podlevsky, Yevgen Prokopov, Valentina Sanina, Alex Tkachenko, Youlia Tkatchouk and Yuriy Viktiuk.

This exhibition is linked to the Millenium Project's theme Origins.

The Ukrainian institute of Modern Art (UIMA), a not for profit arts organization, was founded in 1971. For over 25 years UIMA has served the local community and greater Chicago area with a program of exhibitions, concerts, lectures and multi-disciplinary events. The programs presented by UIMA are partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
